Elmer Seward Bessey (E. S. Bessey) attended school in Ohio and Kansas. He graduated in 1892 with a LL.B. from the University of Kansas. He was a U.S. Commissioner in Indian Territory. He was also the postmaster in Claremore. He came to Oklahoma in 1894 and lived in Claremore. From 1910 to 1916 he lived in Oklahoma City, then to Miami 1916 to 1920, then back to Oklahoma City until 1929. Finally, he moved to EL Reno, Oklahoma. His hobbies included traveling and scientific investigation.
