In Memoriam: Peggy Bowles

June 6, 1939 – May 6, 2024

Peggy joined the Court of Criminal Appeals on January 9, 1989, upon Judge Gary L. Lumpkin taking office as one of the judges appointed to expand the court from 3 judges to 5. Peggy immediately became an integral part of the court staff. She served with distinction during one of the most challenging times facing the court due to a large case backlog and a federal lawsuit against the court and other state entities. Peggy’s professionalism, work ethic and loyalty to the court was an example for others to seek to emulate. Peggy’s love for family immediately transferred to her love of the court and each member of the staff serving the court. She was always among the first to pitch in when the need would arise whether it was to take on additional work or to help with court social events which helped build the cohesiveness of the newly expanded court. Upon her retirement on August 31, 2015, Peggy had amassed 27 years of service to the citizens of Oklahoma leaving a legacy with the court that continues to influence the staff to this day.

Peggy is survived by her daughters Keri and Kristi and their families. Services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 2pm in the Vondel Smith Southlake Chapel.
